The Yemeni protesters fire troops

Yemeni troops opened fire on a crowd of demonstrators demanding the overthrow of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, killing six and injuring more than 30 for the second consecutive day of clashes Monday in a town in the South, witnesses and medical officials said.

At least six demonstrators were killed and more than 30 injured, some with shots to the head and chest, said Zakariya Abdul-Qader, a doctor at a clinic set up by demonstrators in the place of freedom. Other doctors at the clinic confirmed the figure.

The army has a on the city of almost half a million, about 200 km south of the capital, Sanaa. For a second day, tanks and armoured vehicles blocked entrances to the city to prevent outsiders from joining the demonstrations.
